I used Hulu and TV.com for a lot of my shows, since that was the only way I could watch them in HD (My computer monitor is the only HD display in the house). I have forgone that technology in favor of something else I have found…Clear QAM. That would be FCC-mandated free local HD channels over a basic cable subscription, more specifically those that you are able to receive over the air, in your market area. My problem…due to my geographic location (probably the lowest point in Butler County), I could only get 2 channels with a high-gain antenna hanging out my window. Well, now I can record most of my shows (Most appear on CBS) in HD, watch them when I want, and not consume inordinate amounts of bandwidth. Unfortunately the “premium” channels are not unlocked like the local ones are. Free Discovery HD would be awesome. It all interfaces nicely with Windows 7’s Media Center, although I have been experimenting with some Linux based solutions (read: MythTV).
